A recruitment company can define its business into 3 distinct functions:

• Front Office – Business Development (generating client vacancies)
• Middle Office – Delivery (presenting suitable candidates for client selection)
• Back Office – Resourcing (generating candidates for client vacancies)

The front–office function requires business development, sales and client relationship building skills.

The middle-office function requires dealing with hiring managers and HR departments, networking to generate candidate leads, presenting candidates to client, arranging interviews, brokering offers and seeing placements through to successful “on-boarding”

The back-office function consists of advertising vacancies, searching CV databases, screening advert responses, pre-qualifying candidates and other admin duties such as formatting CVs and maintaining the in-house CV database.

As such, the 3 functions require different skills and capabilities. For a sales and revenue motivated recruitment consultant to undertake the back-office function of searching CV databases is an inefficient use of human capital

We believe the middle-office and back-office functions are process-driven and therefore lend themselves well to outsourcing
